It was a practice in Bangladesh almost two centuries ago i.e. during the British period but after the independence of Bangladesh in 1971, it gradually became a popular game for everyone.
History of Cricket
Bangladesh became a member of the ICC in 1977 and played its first match in the 10th Test in June 2000. The Bangladesh national cricket team is nicknamed Tiger after the Royal Bengal Tiger. Among the currently popular cricketers of Bangladesh are Shakib Al Hasan, Tamim Iqbal, Mushfiqur Rahim, Mahmudullah Riyad, Mehdi, Mustafizur Rahman and Liton Das, Soumu Sarkar, Rubel, Sabbir Ahmed. Bangladesh achieved the country’s biggest cricketing milestone by becoming champions in the 2020 U-19 Cricket World Cup.

It is a full member of the International Cricket Council (ICC) with Test, One Day International (ODI) and T20 International (T20I) status. It played its first Test match in November 2000 against India in a 9-wicket defeat in Dhaka, becoming the tenth Test playing nation.
